Her journey spans two continents, where she has combined medical training with a deep commitment to advancing patient outcomes through evidence-based care and innovative treatments.
Dr. Gao began her medical career at Shanxi Medical University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in medicine. She continued her academic pursuits at Peking University Health Science Center, one of China’s most prestigious medical institutions, where she earned her master’s degree. Following her academic training, she gained invaluable hands-on experience as a resident physician at Beijing Tongren Hospital, a renowned teaching hospital known for its excellence in internal medicine and cardiology.
Driven by a passion for advancing cardiovascular care, Dr. Gao moved to the United States, where she joined the Medical University of South Carolina as a postdoctoral fellow and staff scientist. Her research focused on developing novel treatments to combat ischemic cardiac and vascular injury, helping to shape emerging therapies aimed at improving heart health and preventing long-term complications in patients.
Eager to transition her focus from research to direct patient care, Dr. Gao completed her internal medicine residency at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital in New York, a program known for its diverse patient population and rigorous training in comprehensive internal medicine. She further honed her cardiology expertise through a fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she gained advanced training in cardiovascular disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Now a key member of the CardioVascular Group (CVG) team, Dr. Gao provides personalized, compassionate care to patients across Lawrenceville, Duluth, and Dacula. Her clinical interests span a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including cardiac echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, valvular disease, and cardio-oncology. She is particularly passionate about preventive cardiology and women’s heart health, ensuring her patients receive proactive care to reduce their risk of heart disease and improve their overall well-being.
Dr. Gao holds board certifications in Internal Medicine, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Cardiovascular Disease. She is committed to staying at the forefront of advancements in cardiology, blending her research background with clinical practice to provide the highest standard of care.
In addition to her medical achievements, Dr. Gao’s ability to connect with patients on a personal level sets her apart. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, she ensures her diverse patient base feels heard, understood, and cared for in a culturally sensitive manner.
